CHATTOGRAM: The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) authorities have taken a unique initiative to develop a tea garden on the campus in a bid to enhance beauty.

CUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam inaugurated the programme through planting saplings of tea on Tuesday.

The initiative was taken as part of the celebration of the golden jubilee of independence of the country and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Mentionable, the tea garden is being developed on a hilly slope adjacent to the main administrative building and the Independence Square of the university.

Initially, the garden will be developed on around two acres of land and some 2,000 species of saplings will be planted.

The tea saplings were collected from Kodala Tea Garden at Rangunia upazila.
