One million doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, which have been given by China as a gift to Bangladesh, arrived in Dhaka on Monday night.

“The fifth batch of Covid-19 vaccine gifted by the Chinese government to Bangladesh government arrived safely,” said a statement of the Chinese embassy in Dhaka.

It also said a new batch of Sinovac vaccine arrived after four batches of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine arrived in May, June and August this year.

This batch of the corona vaccine is produced by Sinovac Life Sciences Co. Ltd. In the battle of fighting the virus, China and Bangladesh have always been standing together, supporting and assisting each other in times of difficulties and challenges, vividly illustrating the profound friendship between the two countries, the Chinese embassy said.

Sources at the health ministry in Bangladesh said 10 lakh doses of Chinese vaccine arrived at 11pm on Monday.

It also said there is a schedule to arrive more 55 lakh doses of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine in Bangladesh at 11pm on October 21. Meanwhile, the sources further said more 10 lakh doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in Dhaka from the Netherlands on Monday midnight.

The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) of Bangladesh approved the emergency use of Sinovac vaccine amid a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths in Bangladesh on June 6 this year.

Earlier, the Bangladesh government on April 29 the same year approved the emergency use of Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine.
