The Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon on Monday took a swipe at Bangladesh players and coaching staff for their poor approach and strategy against Scotland.

“A team can lose but the approach should be right. The approach and the attitude were not right,” Nazmul told reporters at Sheraton Hotel in Muskat, Oman. “This is usual that batsmen will be dismissed when he will try to play shots during power-play.  But the way our batsmen batted including Shakib, Mushfiq and Mahmudullah, we lost the match there,” he added.

Bangladesh lost their opening game by six runs to begin their ICC World T20 campaign in a disastrous manner after their batsmen failed to chase down 141 runs set by Scotland and could only make 134-7 in the run-chase.

“We won’t be able to chase in this format if we display such batting. Every batsman in this team knows about this. I think their approach and strategy was not right at all. I think we should have changed the batting order as we lost two early wickets inside three overs. It was a major mistake,” he said, adding that none’s place in the batting order is permanent.

Meanwhile, Nazmul said that he was also surprised not to see Naim in the playing XI, whom they backed for the whole year and was relatively among runs.

The Tigers decided to drop Mohammad Naim for the match although he was a regular face in their T20 side for the last few years while they opted for Soumya Sarkar in his place.

The move was made as the team management couldn’t drop Soumya, who was among runs in the practice game at number three but it backfired as he could make run-a-ball five in the match.
