Police recovered the decomposed body of a doctor from a house at Nikunja-2 in the capital on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Dr Joydeb Chandra Das, 25, son of Dilip Chandra Das and Mina Rani Das hailing from south Salandar Kumarpara at Parbatipur in Dinajpur. He passed MBBS from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.

Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of the DMP, said that the residents of house No. 8 and road No.15 were getting bad smell from a flat on the seventh floor at about 7:45pm.

Being informed, a team of police at Khilkhet Police Station reached the spot and broke open the door of the flat, and found the body of the doctor lying on his bed.

The doctor might have died two to three days ago and his body got decomposed, he said.

He said that the Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the spot and collected evidences.

Russell Parves, sub-inspector of the police station, made an inquest report of the body and later sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy, he said.

The officer said they were primarily suspecting that the doctor might have committed suicide, but the autopsy report would clear the exact reason behind the death.

Residents of the house said that a week ago, Joydeb started sharing his room with another doctor who went to village home to celebrate Durga Puja.

On October 9, police recovered the body of a female physician Dr Mahfuza Akter, 25, from the Nikunja-2 area.
