Law enforcers are carrying out a massive hunt for the accused in the three cases filed over Friday’s attacks on policemen in the capital.

Police and detectives are trying to identity and arrest the accused through video footage.

Law enforcers have so far arrested a total of 21 persons in this connection, Deputy Commissioner (media) Faruq Hossain said on Sunday.

Police and detective police are looking for the culprits involved in the attacks, he added.

The three cases were filed with Ramna, Paltan and Chackbazar police stations in the capital on Saturday night, accusing around 4,000 people of the attacks.

The attacks on cops took place in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and its adjacent areas in the capital in the run-up to the Cumilla incident. The DC said a case was filed with Paltan Police Station against 2,500 unnamed people and six people have been arrested so far in the case.

Another case was filed with Ramna Police Station against 1,500 people and ten people were arrested.

Apart from this, a case was filed with Chawkbazar Police Station against 40 unidentified people and five of them were arrested.

On Friday, several hundred people brought out a procession from Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Jum’a prayers. Police obstructed the procession when their procession reached Nightingale intersection.

A chase and counter-chase occurred during this time. The people hurled brickbats at police members and later were locked into a clash.

Nine people, including five policemen, were injured in the incident. Police rounded up 17 people from the spot.
