KUSHTIA: Local Freedom Fighters and Awami League (AL) leaders of Ward No. 9 of Poradah union under Mirpur upazila in the district sent an application to AL’s central president seeking cancelation of the partisan UP chairman’s nomination.

They alleged that the AL nominated Poradah UP chairman candidate Sharmin Akhter Nasrin is daughter of listed Razakar and Peace Committee member Abdul Gafur Mandal who was imprisoned under the Collaborators Act after country’s independence.

They also alleged that, in 2016 UP election, Sharmin Akter Nasrin worked against the AL nominated candidate with ‘Boat’ symbol.

Nazrul Karim, former commander of Mirpur Upazila Muktijoddha Command, said that the list of the then Razakars prepared by the then Mirpur Upazila Muktijoddha Commanders included Abdul Gafur Mandal as the 7th rank of Fulbaria Union.

The former freedom fighter commander has expressed frustration and anger over the partisan nomination of Sharmin Akhter Nasrin, daughter of Abdul Gafur Mandal.

Meanwhile, Sharmin Akhtar said, “I was born in 1973. How could I say my father was a Razakar or a Jamindar? I have been in Awami League for 30 long years. At present I am the president of Mirpur Mahila Awami League.”

She also said that incumbent Chairman Anwaruzzaman Biswas Majnu Saheb made this complain since he did not get the Boat symbol.
