‘Rickshaw Girl’ wins top prize at Schlingel Int’l Film Festival

Acclaimed director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s ‘Rickshaw Girl’ has won the SLM Top Award at the 26th SCHLINGEL Int’l Film Festival in Germany.

This year, 77 feature films and 116 short films competed in the festival, of which ‘Rickshaw Girl’ was nominated in the International Segment.

Based on Mitali Perkins’s novel ‘Rickshaw Girl’, the film tells the story of a teenage girl named Naima, who bravely attempts to help her struggling family by disguising herself as a boy and driving her father’s prized rickshaw for much needed extra money.

Novera Rahman has acted in the title role of ‘Rickshaw Girl’. The film also stars Momena Chowdhury, Allen Shuvro, Champa and Naresh Bhuiyan.

The film had previously been in Mill Valley Film Festival in the USA, and Durban International Film Festival in South Africa.

SCHLINGEL is an international film festival for children and young audiences. The festival began in 1996 and has taken place annually in Chemnitz ever since in the week before the Saxon Fall Break. The festival gives an overview of the newest international productions in the area of children and youth films.
