Seven killed in Mymensingh road crash

At least seven people, including two children, were killed and nine others injured when a running bus hit a truck parked on Mymensingh-Trishal highway in Trishal upazila on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Fazlul Haque, 32, his wife Fatema Begum, 25, their daughter Azmina, 8, and son Abdullah, 6, Fatema’s father Nazrul Islam, 50, Miraz Mia, 35, and Helena Akter, 40.

Main Uddin, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said the accident took place around 3:00pm on Saturday in Cheler Ghat area of Trishal, killing four of a family and two others.

He said a stone-carrying truck was parked on the side of the highway as its wheel was broken. The accident took place when a Sherpur-bound passenger bus lost control and hit the truck from behind.

All of the victims were passengers of the bus. Five people died on the spot and another two died while they were being taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), he said.

The injured are being treated at the local Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and Community Based Medical College Hospital. Among them, Fahad, Babul and Rafiq are in critical condition.   Selim Mia, duty officer of Mymensingh Fire Service, said a unit was rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. Traffic on the highway

was normal.

Police said the drivers of the two vehicles fled the scene after the accident.
