Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam has urged the public representatives at different tires across the country to remain vigilant to protect communal harmony.

“A vested quarter is trying inciting communal tension and creating unrest.  Public representatives in city corporations, municipalities, upazilas and union parishads have to remain vigilant for protecting the communal harmony in the country,” he said. The LGRD minister was addressing a press conference at his official residence of Mintoo road in the capital on Friday.

Tazul Islam said that the government would bring the culprits who kept the holy Quran in a Cumilla temple incident to book.

“The anti-independence forces have been hatching conspiracy from in and outside the country for going to power. They are now trying to create unrest in the country using the religious sentiment,” he also said.

The minister informed that the government will investigate if there has any weakness of the security forces to deal with the issue

“We have upgraded to develop the country from the ultra-poor country. When the country was marching forward to be the developed one under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a group of people are fueling the communal tension.  The people involved in the Cumilla incident are the enemy of the country and don’t want the development of the country,” Tazul said.
