Domestic cricket in Bangladesh is all set to resume after six months with the 23rd edition of National Cricket League, which will get underway on Sunday at three different venues. Dhaka Division will take on Sylhet Division in the opening tier-1 match of NCL at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Academy in Sylhet while Khulna will face Rangpur in the other tier-1 match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
In tier-2, Chattogram will take on Rajshahi at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram while Dhaka Metro will vie against Barishal in the other match at the Cox’s Bazar Academy in Cox’s Bazar.
According to a BCB official, all the members of eight participating teams were reported Covid-19 negative in the first test and they will undergo another test before starting their practice on Saturday. The tournament will run until November 24 as all eight teams will play six games in their respective tier.
Earlier, the last edition of the NCL was suspended after two rounds on April 2 due to the rise of coronavirus cases in the country. Meanwhile, Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis Member Secretary Ali Hossain on Thursday informed that the lower-tier competitions - First, Second and Third Division Cricket Leagues - will start from November.
CCDM officials had a meeting with lower-tier clubs at the BCB headquarter on Thursday where they decided to start the lower-tier competition with the third division cricket league.
Hossain also said that the Narayanganj District Sports Council Ground would host the upcoming lower-tier competitions along with the other five venues.
“The player transfer of the third division cricket league will be held on November 1 and 2 and we expect to start the league on November 15,” Hossain said.
