The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday fixed November 28 to hold the elections for 1,007 Union Parishads (UPs) and 10 municipalities in the third phase.
EC Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker announced the polls schedule at a press conference after a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
Candidates for the posts of chairman, members and reserved seats for women will be able to submit their nomination papers to the returning officers until November 2, according to the schedule.
The scrutiny of the nomination paper will be held on November 4 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is November 11.
The same schedule will be followed for the municipality elections, said the EC secretary.
Responding to a question posed by reporters, he said, “They have fixed the polls schedule, considering the SSC and HSC exam schedules. There will be no problem in that case.”
The secretary also said elections for 369 UPs have been held in the first phase while elections for 848 UPs will be held on November 11 in the second phase.
EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, NID wing director general AKM Humayun Kabir, joint secretary Farhad Ahmmed Khan and director (joint secretary) SM Asaduzzaman were present at press briefing, among others.
