CHATTOGRAM: A grocer, his wife and son were hacked to death allegedly by another son over family feud centring land properties at Mirsarai upazila in the district on Thursday early hours.
The deceased were identified as Md Mostafa, 56, his wife Josnara Begum, 45, and son Ahmed Hossain, 25, of Jorarganj area under the upazila.
However, another son of the victim alleged that his elder brother Saddam might have carried out the murders over a family feud centring land properties.
Inspector (Investigation) Helal Uddin of Zorarganj Police Station said on information through the national emergency number 999, they rushed to the house of the grocer Mostafa at village Uttar Sonapaharr under the upazila at around 4:00am.
They found the bodies of Mostafa, Josnara and Ahmed lying inside the house while Mostafa’s elder son Saddam and his wife were staying there unhurt, said the inspector.
The victims were hacked and slaughtered to death. Saddam claimed it an act of robbers, he said.
“We recovered the bodies and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue,” said Inspector Helal adding that they picked Saddam and his wife for quizzing.
Filing of a case in this connection was under process, Helal added.
On the other hand, Mostafa’s younger son Altaf Hossain, who used to work at a fish warehouse and stay at Baraiyarhat, said his elder brother Saddam called him over phone and said robbers killed their parents and brother Ahmed. “I rushed to the home immediately and found the bodies lying inside the house,” he said.
“My father gave some lands to my brother Ahmed. Saddam used to lock in quarrel with Ahmed over the issue,” said Altaf.
Saddam might have carried out the murders over the issue, he suspected.
