Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister Tazul Islam expressed his dissatisfaction with service provided by utility agencies to get rid of the perennial the water-logging problem in Chattogram.
“It is very unpleasant to see that people of Chattogram are suffering from waterlogging despite spending public money in numerous projects,” he said while addressing an online programme on the water-logging problem in Chattogram.
The LGRD Minister stressed the need for finishing the development projects on schedule to find a way out of the problem.
He also urged the Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation to play a leading role in this regard.
“The mayor is the father of the city. He should coordinate the development work of different organs of the government including CCC, CDA, Chattogram WASA and Water Development Board.”
He also requested the authorities concerned not to blame each other.
“If there is any error in the master plan of Chattogram WASA or in the design of infrastructures, they must be corrected. Engineers and planners design a project, but the authorities concerned must review if it matches the reality,” Tazul said.
“If cleaners carried out their duties properly, the city would not be in this condition. City dwellers must stop dumping garbage and polythene in canals and drains. If they throw waste rampantly, we have to use mobile court to punish the offenders,” Tazul said.
