Nafees wants to keep coaching career as option

Popular News

Former national opener Nafees Iqbal said on Wednesday that he is keeping cricket coaching as a career option along with his other engagements.

Nafees, who had made a name for himself in a managerial role, is currently attending a level-1 coaching course hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board which also includes few other familiar names like Nazimuddin and Panna Ghosh. Nafees, who recently joined the BCB and also served as the A team manager, informed that he’s not new to coaching as he is performing the role in the Dhaka Premier League for Khelaghar.

“I think it was too late. I think I should have done the coaching course before. I’m really enjoying under local coaches like Babul sir. Sujon bhai gave some teaching yesterday. Salahuddin sir, Sohel bhai are also here so I’m really impressed with the way they are taking classes and their knowledge in this arena,” Nafees, who represented Bangladesh in 11 Tests and 16 ODIs, told reporters in Mirpur.

“As I played cricket for almost 22 years, I think I should have a certificate (on coaching). I don’t know about my ambition. Previously I played a managerial role but I was also a coach for Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in DPL for the last three years. I never know where I will be established but I’m just doing the course as an option.

“I have been working in a managerial role on a regular basis. I have been working in BPL since 2016. I did my job previously for Khulna Titans. I also worked for Bangladesh A team. Whenever I got a chance to do my job I did my best,” he added.
