The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education took an initiative to set up ‘Sheikh Russel Book Corner’ at every primary school across the country.

The ministry sources said the Book Corner will be launched marking the Sheikh Russel Day on October 18. The primary schools, which are not able to open the corner by that time, will have to complete the work of setting up the book corner within this year.

Earlier on August 29, a meeting in this regard was held with state minister for Primary and Mass Education Ministry Md Zakir Hossain in the chair while another meeting was also held with the ministry’s secretary in the chair.

As per decision of the meetings, Sheikh Russel Book Corner should be set up in primary schools across the country. The meeting directed the departments under the ministry and the directorate to prepare work plans and take necessary steps in this regard. Following the directives, Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) directed for establishment of Sheikh Russel book corner at all primary schools across the country.

Meanwhile, the DPE issued an office order on Sunday to observe the Sheikh Russel Day on October 18. The office order was sent to all deputy directors of all divisional offices.

DPE in the office order also mentioned that in order to celebrate the “Sheikh Russel Day-2021” different competitions including painting, quiz competition and discussion meetings should be arranged at the schools.

DPE Director General Alamgir Muhammad Mansurul Alam said, “We have set up Bangabandhu Corner. Now, Sheikh Russel Book Corner is being set up at the schools.”

“Sheikh Russel was a fourth-grade student of Dhaka University Laboratory School. From that sense of responsibility we are doing it seriously,” he added.
