A Dhaka labour court on Tuesday granted bail to Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and three other top officials of the organisation in a case filed on charges of violating labour laws.
Judge (in-charge) Md Moonzurul Imam of the Labour Court-3 passed the order after Dr Yunus surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.
Shahjahan. The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Inspector SM Arifuzzaman filed the case on September 9 and the court had summoned the four accused to appear before the court by October 12.
According to the case, a team of DIFE inspected the office of Grameen Telecom in the capital’s Mirpur and reported violation of labour laws including not regularising 101 staffs and not establishing a welfare fund for the labourers.
Besides, five percent of the company’s dividends were supposed to be paid to the workers but it was not paid to them, it added.
