CHATTOGRAM: SR Shipping Limited, which owns the highest number of Bangladeshi-flagged vessels in the world, won two maritime awards in recognition of its activities.

The awards were handed over at a ceremony held in the capital recently.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the awards to SR Shipping Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Meherul Karim at a ceremony.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and others were present at the programme.

Mentionable, Captain SM Nasir Uddin and crews of ‘MV Jawad’ of the company were awarded in recognition of their special contribution to sea adventure through rescuing an Indian fisherman floating alive in the deep sea.

Besides, the SR Shipping Limited was awarded in recognition of its special contribution in acquiring ships in international sea routes.

In this regard, the company CEO Meherul Karim said they received awards in two categories from the Ministry of Commerce in recognition of their activities.

Mentionable, SR Shipping is mainly operated by local sailors and crews. Currently, it operates the highest number of Bangladeshi-flagged mother vessels.

The students who achieve degrees from the Marine Academy are getting jobs at the company and it is saving foreign currency.
