Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) have rescued 10 crew members from a capsized lighter ship in the Bay of Bengal.

Members of Dublarchar BCG Outpost rescued them from the sunken ‘MV Beauty of Lohagora-2’ at Sundarbans J Ford point in Khulna around 1:00am on Saturday, said Lt Khandaker Munif Touki, media officer of the BCG.

The stone-laden ship capsized around 10:00pm on Friday as water got into it through its bottom due to developing cracks, he said.

Being informed, the BCG personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the crewmen, provided foods for them and gave primary treatment, he said.

The rescued crew members were later handed over to the ship authorities, he added.
