My favourite memories of Durga Puja are with music: Haimanti

Haimanti Rakshit Das is a well-known singer of the country’s music arena. She has been mesmerising listeners for decades with her melodic voice. In a conversation with Daily Sun Correspondent Anindita Naheen, the singer talked about her Puja plans, upcoming projects, and more.

How are you? What are you doing these days?

I’m fine. I’m back from Dubai a few days ago. I’ve participated there in a stage show of ‘Bangladesh Pavilion Inaugural Seminar’, organised by the Bangladesh Government at ‘EXPO 2020 Dubai’. This was a very prestigious programme. I’m honoured to be part of such a great show. Besides, my song ‘Nesha Lagilo Re’ has crossed 10 million views on YouTube recently. I’m very happy with this achievement.

Durga Puja is knocking at the door. What are your plans?

I’m spending this year Durga Puja in Dhaka. I always love spending special occasions with my family and friends. We will visit different puja mandap. Besides, every year I’ve got a lot of musical programmes including stage and live shows during this festival. I will be busy with multiple shows this year too.

What are your favourite childhood memories of Durga Puja?

I’m attached to music from an early age and since then I’ve been busy with different programmes on Durga Puja festival. I’ve spent my childhood with music. My favourite memories are also with singing. I used to attend Durga Puja festival in Chattogram during my childhood. Nowadays I barely go there to join Puja festival due to my busy schedule.

Tell us about your upcoming projects.

My new song for Durga Puja ‘Joy Durga Mayer Joy’ has been released recently. In the song, I’ve collaborated with singers Kornia, Swapnil Sajib, and designer Biplop Saha for the first time. Besides, I’ve playback for two government-granted films.

Would you like to tell something for your fans?

As the pandemic is still going on, I wish everybody will be safe during the Puja festival. I wish everyone a happy Durga Puja.
