Padatik to stage ‘Kaal Ratri’ at Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Fest

Renowned theatre troupe Padatik Natya Sangsad will stage Liberation War-based play ‘Kaal Ratri’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the ongoing Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival in the capital on Monday.

The play has been adapted by Dr. Tanvir Ahmed Sidney based on Lamisa Shirin Hossain’s ‘The Lone Survivor’. Wahidul Islam is the director of the play.  

The story encircles the night of March 25 in 1971 when Pakistani military killed thousands of innocent Bangladeshis. The play unfolds as a young girl asks his grandfather, who was a teacher of Dhaka University in 1971, about the war. Through stories and her encounter with a wounded freedom fighter, the girl gets to know about the war and its sheer horror.

The cast of the play include Sakhawat Hossain Shimul, , Mohammad Imran Khan, Ikramul Islam, Chamak Tara, Salman Shuvo Chowdhury, Jinia Azad, Farhad Sumon, Syeda Shamsi Ara Sayeka and others.

The Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival 2021 began at Shilpakala Academy on October 1. The fest is showcasing 36 theatrical performances by 36 different theatre groups from Dhaka and beyond. Music, choreography, and recitation are being performed by 44 music recitations and dance troupes, and around 3,500 artistes from 140 noted and promising cultural groups are participating at the festival.

The 12-day festival will end on October 12.
