Biman begins direct flight on Syedpur-Cox’s Bazar route

Biman Bangladesh Airlines began the operation of direct flights between Syedpur and Cox’s Bazar for the first time in country’s aviation history.

The opening flight carrying 74 passengers left for beach town Cox’s Bazar from the northwestern upazilla Syedpur in Nilphamari district around 11:40am on Thursday.

Railway Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon formally inaugurated the flight operation.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism MdMahbub Ali chaired the launching event at the Saidpur Airport.

The event was also attended, among others, by Nilphamari-2 lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor, Nilphamari-4 lawmaker Ahsan Adelur Rahman Adel, women MP from reserved seat Begum Rabeya Alim, chairman of the Biman Board of Directors Sajjadul Hasan, secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mokammel Hossain, Rangpur divisional commissioner Abdul Wahab and Nilphamari district’s deputy commissioner Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury.

Earlier, the guests exchanged greetings with all the passengers of the inaugural flight.

Thanking Biman authorities, Railway Minister said, “The new route of Biman will enable the passengers from eight districts of the greater Rangpur division to fly directly to and from Cox’s Bazar.”

He hoped to launch operation of more flights in the route.

“Prime Minister is keen to develop Saiddpur Airport as a regional air hub. Airspace to Nepal, Bhutan and India will be extended from Saidpur,” he said.

State Minister for Aviation said, “Syedpur is the gateway to north Bengal, and we have launched this flight so that the people of these areas can go directly to Cox’s Bazar. This will boost the country’s tourism industry.”

As the maiden Biman flight reached the beach town Cox’s Bazar from Saidpur, State Minister for Tourism and Aviation Md Mahbub Ali attended a press conference at Parjatan Motel Shaibal in Cox’s Bazar.

He said,“The government is determined to make Cox's Bazar a modern  international standard tourist destination.”

“We want the tourists from all over the world come to Cox's Bazar, and from Cox’s Bazar tourists can also visit the beautiful places of north Bengal (northern partof Bangladesh),”state minister said.

According to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flight, BG 592 will depart from Syedpur for Cox’s Bazar every Thursday at 9:20am and flight BG 538 will leave Cox’s Bazar for Syedpur every Saturday at 1:25 pm.
