203 more hospitalised with dengue

The number of dengue infected patients has been increasing in the country as the daily number of dengue cases again rose to over 200 in the last 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 203 more dengue patients were hospitalized while no death was reported in the country in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.

It said 1139 dengue patients were hospitalized in last 6 days of October, 7,841 dengue patients were hospitalized in September, 7,698 dengue patients in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.

Some 12 dengue patients died across the country in the last month July,  34 dengue patients died in the last month August, 23 in September and 4 deaths have been reported in the current month October, the health directorate data added.

The DGHS said 170 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 33 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday.

A total of 720 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 143 outside the city, it said.

The number of death from the dengue disease also has been increasing day by day as a total of 73 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 87 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 19,336 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country including in Dhaka city since January until October 6 this year.

So far, 18,400 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, the DGHS report said.
