Court refuses to hear bail petition of ex-DG of DGHS

A Dhaka court on Tuesday refused to hold hearing on a bail petition of former director general of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad in a case filed over the much-talked about Regent Hospital scam.

Court sources said Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Emrul Kayesh could not hear the bail petition of Dr Azad as he was busy with others cases.

The court, however, asked the former health DG to submit the petition in another day.

Later, the bail petition of Dr Azad was withdrawn and he left the court premises.

Earlier in the day, Dr Azad surrendered before the court and submitted his bail petition through his lawyer in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On September 30, ACC submitted a charge sheet against six people, including Dr Azad in the case showing the former health-DG as fugitive in the case.
