Mobile court to ensure airing of ad-free foreign channels: Hasan

Information and Broad-casting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday warned that mobile court drive would be conducted to ensure ad-free or clean feed broadcasting of foreign channels.

“Mobile court drive will be conducted from Wednesday to ensure ad-free or clean feed broadcasting of foreign channels,” he said this at a meeting with the representative of trustee board member of the Broadcast Journalist Centre (BJC) at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

The minister came up with the remark as country’s cable operators stopped broadcasting all foreign TV channels upon an information ministry directive from October 1.

According to the directive of the ministry, no foreign channels with advertisements can be broadcast thus cable TV operators had to refrain from broadcasting foreign channels until further instructions.

Hasan, also the joint general secretary of the Awami League, said they are implementing the law for the sake of the country.

“This time we are committed to enforce the law. Legal action will be taken against them if anyone spreads confusion,” he said.

Some are making efforts to create confusion among the people but they will not be succeeded as the law has been implanted for the sake of the country, he added.

Hasan also said many foreign channels have already sending clean feed but some are refraining from broadcasting those ad-free channels.

“Mobile court drives will be conducted in different parts of the country those are not being run foreign channels despite getting clean feed. Action will be taken against them,” he said.

State minister for information and broadcasting Murad Hasan, BJC chairman Rezwanul Haque and founder member of BJC Manosh Ghosh, among others, was present.
