Madaripur District councillor Khalid Hossain withdrew his name from the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board Directors’ Election 2021, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, citing personal reasons.

Khalid, who was listed in the final candidates’ list on September 30, sent a letter of withdrawal to the Chief Election Commissioner to inform him about his decision of opting out from the election on Sunday.

“I had an ambition of developing cricket to a greater extend and because of that I became a director candidate from category 1 – Dhaka Division – in the upcoming election. But now, I decided to withdraw from the election due to my personal reasons,” Khalid wrote in the letter to the CEC of BCB election.

Khalid was expected to give Tanvir Ahmed (Titu), Naimur Rahman and Syed Asfaqul Islam (Titu) a tough fight during the category 1 - Dhaka Division election from where two BCB directors will be elected.

After Khalid’s withdrawal, the remaining three aspiring candidates will run in the election in the Dhaka Division subcategory and two of them will be elected through the election.

Earlier, former BCB Director Shawkat Aziz Russell had withdrawn his name from the Board of Directors’ Election on the last day of nomination withdrawal.

A total of 23 aspiring candidates will now fight for 16 Board of Directors’ posts in three different categories.
