21 buses fined for having no route permit

Separate mobile courts on Sunday fined 21 inter-district and intercity buses and mini-busses Tk 90,500 in Dhaka for plying without route permit.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) conducted two separate joint drives as per the decision of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee (BRRC) and imposed fines.

After emerging from the 17th meeting of BRRC on 24 June, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam, also  a member of the BRRC, announced that they would conduct a drive against illegal buses.

He said that there were at least 1,646 buses plying in the capital without any route permit.

DSCC and BRTA executive magistrates conducted the drive on Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan area while DNCC and BRTA in Bosila Bridge area of Mohammadpur.

Talking to the Daily Sun, DSCC Executive Magistrate Tanjila Kabir Tropha said, “I have imposed fines on nine buses from different companies including Bondhon, Meghla, Swadesh, Rajonigondha and Doyel Paribahan.”

DNCC Executive Magistrate Mutakabbir Ahmed fined 3 buses Tk 25,000 while BRTA Executive Magistrate Md Fakhrul Islam fined 9 buses Tk 13,500.
