Towhid’s heroic knock goes in vain

Towhid Hridoy’s valiant effort with the bat went in vain as High Performance Unit conceded a narrow four-run defeat against Bangladesh A team in the rain-affected third one-day match in Chattogram on Saturday.

Towhid struck an unbeaten 93 off 79 balls and put up a partnership of 101 runs with Rejaur Rahman (33) for the eighth wicket after they were reduced to 65-7 but HP Unit could reach only 189-8 in their stipulated 33 overs.

Mosaddek Hossain and Rakibul Hasan chipped in with three wickets each for Bangladesh A team.

Earlier, HP Unit were set a revised target of 194 runs in 33 overs after the second innings saw a delayed start due to rain while Bangladesh A team made 222-9 in their stipulated 44 overs after they opted to bat first.

Opener Shadman Islam and middle-order batsman Imrul Kayes had notable contributions in Bangladesh A team innings, making 47 and 37 runs respectively.

Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad finished with 4-30 while pacer Rejaur claimed two wickets for HP Unit.

With this victory, Bangladesh A team clinched the ongoing one-day series as they took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the four-match series.

Bangladesh A team earlier won the preceding two games by 30 runs and six wickets respectively.

The fourth and last match will take place on Monday at the same venue.
