CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested a youth addicted to drug on a charge of beating up his father for money in the city’s Panchlaish area on Saturday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Shakhawat Shahriar Chowdhury, 27, son of Md Jafrul Alam Chowdhury of Akbar Shah Lane at Kapasgola Road in the port city.

Sources said drug addict Shahriar sought money from his father Jafrul, a deputy registrar of Press Department of Chattogram University (CU), at their residence on Friday.  As the father refused to provide money, his son beat him up and hit him with a chair leaving him injured at that time.

Later, the family members rushed Jafrul to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.  They also lodged a complaint with the Panchlaish police station in this connection.  Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamal Uddin of the police station said on information, police arrested Shahriar from the residence early Saturday. The arrestee was produced before a court in the afternoon, said the inspector.
