One more dengue patient dies, 165 hospitalised

One dengue patient died and 165 more infected people were hospitalised in the country during the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

The highest number of dengue patients was hospitalised in the country in September this year.

However, the number of dengue patients has declined further slightly in the last 24 hours as the infection cases declined to below 200 for second consecutive day.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 165 more dengue patients were hospitalized and one death was reported in the country in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

It said 7,841 dengue patients were hospitalised in September, 7,698 dengue patients in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.

Some 12 dengue patients died across the country in the last July, 34 in last August and 22 in last September, the health directorate data added.

The DGHS said 141 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 41 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8am on Friday.

A total of 766 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 209 outside the city, it said.

The number of death from the dengue disease also has been increasing day by day as a total of 68 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 81 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 18,362 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country including in Dhaka city since January until October 1 this year.

So far, 17,319 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, the DGHS report said.
