The closing and award announcing ceremony of the 13th edition of the International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) organised by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) in association with UNHCR in Bangladesh was held at STAR Cineplex in the capital’s Bashundhara City on Thursday.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Pro-vice-chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, and on behalf of the UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh, Senior Protection Officer of UNHCR Bangladesh, Shubhash Wostey attended the programme as guests of honour.
He also promised to give assistance in setting up a film lab at Dhaka University Film Society to be named after prominent filmmaker Zahir Raihan.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. A.S. M. Maksud Kamal Said, ‘Films and pictures bear immense importance. I’m happy to see such a festive occasion arranged by the students of University of Dhaka.’
The International Affair Secretary of DUFS Nahid Bhuiyan expressed his gratitude for successfully arranging this festival.
This year, a total of 164 films, officially selected from 1,310 films of 95 countries, were screened from 25 to 27 September at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The Zahir Raihan Best Short Award 2021 was awarded to the film ‘After Class’ directed by Charles Xiuzhi Dong from United States. The Tareque Masud Best Emerging Director 2021 was given to the film ‘Lottery’ directed by K.M Kanak from Bangladesh. The Best Short Film on Refugee was awarded to the film ‘Matchstick’ directed by Mahmoud Ahmed from Palestine.
