Former Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Shawkat Aziz Russell had withdrawn his name from the upcoming Board of Directors’ Election as the election commission announced the final candidates’ list on Thursday.

A total of 24 aspiring candidates will now fight for 16 Board of Directors’ posts in the upcoming BCB election, scheduled on October 6 in three different categories.

Seven candidates- Shafiul Alam Chowdhury from Sylhet, Akram Khan, AJM Nasir Uddin from Chattogram, Sheikh Sohel, Kazi Inam Ahmed from Khulna and Alamgir Khan from Barishal have been elected unopposed in the election.

Jalal Yunus and Ahmed Sazzadul Alam are also set to get in the BCB as the National Sports Council nominees which will complete the 25-member Board of Directors’ of the BCB.

In category 1 there will be an election in Dhaka and Rajshahi Divisions with four BCB councillors - Tanvir Ahmed (Titu), Naimur Rahman, Syed Asfaqul Islam (Titu) and Md Khalid Hossain will fight for two posts in Dhaka while Khaled Mashud Pilot and Saiful Alam Swapon Chowdhury will fight for one post in Rajshahi.

After Russell’s withdrawal, 16 candidates will fight for 12 posts in category 2 – Dhaka Metro Club Representatives.

The candidates are - Nazmul Hassan, Gazi Golam Murtaza, Najib Ahmed, Mahbubul Anam, Masuduzzaman, Obeid Rashid Nizam, Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, Salahuddin Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Enayet Hossain, Fahim Sinha, Iftekhar Rahman, Manzur Kader, Abdur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam and Manzur Alam Manzu.

 In category 3, Khaled Mahmud and Nazmul Abedin will be fighting for one post.

 Presiding Officer SM Kabirul Hasan informed that six councillors from category 1, 27 councillors from category-2 and 18 councillors from category 3 would be able to vote by postal ballots while four councillors from category 1 and 2 will cast E-vote in the election.
