A Sylhet court on Thursday accepted the charge sheet against five policemen, including the prime suspect suspended sub-inspector (SI) Akbar Hossain, and a journalist in a case filed over the death of Rayhan Ahmed at Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet.
Sylhet’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Momen accepted the charge-sheet submitted by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on May 5, said Khokon Chandra Sarkar, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
All the other accused – Akbar Hossain, the then in-charge of the Bandarbazar police outpost, Hasan Ali, sub-inspector, Ashek Elahi, assistant sub-inspector, Harunur Rashid and Titu Chandra, constables of the same outpost, were present in the court.
Rayhan’s mother Salma Begum demanded exemplary punishment of those who are responsible for his son’s murder to the court.
Rayhan Ahmed, 33, of Neharipara area in Sylhet city, was tortured in Bandarbazar Police Outpost on October 11 last year and died on the same day an hour after he was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital by police personnel.
