DoL launches accessible online database

An online-based publicly accessible database has been launched on Thursday to facilitate the services of the department of Labour (DoL), bring transparency in the provision of services and make all information related to trade unions.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian inaugurated the database as the chief guest at the conference room of Shram Bhawan at Vijay Smarani in the capital on Thursday.

The state minister said that the database contains information on all trade unions registered by the Department of Labour across the country, rejected and registered trade unions, trade union cases, malpractice and arbitration, updated information on federations, CBA  selection and participating committees.

Labour and Employment Ministry’s Secretary Md Ehsan Elahi said that the amendment of Bangladesh Labor Rules, 2015 will be completed by next December.

Begum Shamsunnahar, Member of Parliament for the reserved seats of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, Inspector General of the Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Director General of Labor Gautam Kumar, President of Jatiya Sramik League Nur Kutub Alam Mannan, President of Bangladesh Trade Union Center Shahidullah Chowdhury, President of Jatiya Sramik League Alauddin Miah, ILO representatives, BGMEA Workers and Employees Union-Scope leaders were present on the occasion. During the event, it was informed that a user can view all the updated information from the database and print the report. The publicly accessible database will be open to the public and anyone can use the information here for various purposes such as personal and institutional work, research work, to get an idea of the country's labor environment, etc.

The software has been done in both Bengali and English versions, according to the event.

The wrapper of the annual report of Labour Journal (Volume-37), the draft proposal to amend the enacted labour laws and regulations handing over and the digital display board of the labour department were inaugurated at the same event.

'Bangladesh Labour Journal' contains details information of the overall activities of the Department of Labour.

The department of labour plays an important role in ensuring smooth production and protecting the rights of employers and workers by establishing employer-worker harmony.

A brief description and statistics of all the activities of this department are published in this journal.

The main way to look at the overall activities of the department on a year-by-year basis is through the Labor Journal which is published every year.

A huge digital display board has been set up on the east side of Shram Bhawan to inform the public about all these developmental programmes adopted and implemented by the government in the field of labour.
