The naval warship Somudra Avijan left Chittagong naval base on Thursday on a three-day goodwill visit to Visakhapatnam in India to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A function was held on the occasion of the departure of the warship at the jetty. Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet, attended the function as the chief guest and gave farewell reception. Senior naval officials and sailors were also present at the programme.

A total of 228 sailors, including 32 officers and 40 midshipmen, led by the ship’s captain Captain Al Farooq Mahmud Hossain, are participating in the goodwill visit. At the end of the tour, the ship will return to Bangladesh on October 10.
