BNP’s terrorist acts won’t be tolerated: Nanak

Awami League Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak on Wednesday said befitting reply will be given to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) if they plan to burn people to death.

“BNP’s terrorist acts won’t be tolerated. Befitting reply will be given if they plan arson attack to kill people in the name of movement,” he said.

Nanak gave the warning while addressing a discussion organised by relief and social welfare sub-committee of the Awami League at Jahir Raihan Sangskritik Kendra in old Dhaka, marking party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 75th birthday.

Later, a doa mahfil was organised and food, clothe items, and health protective gears were distributed among orphans and destitute people.

Mentioning that people were killed, passengers of buses were burnt to death, revenue offices and vehicles were torched, the former minister questioned whether this is movement or not.

Organising Secretary of Awami League Mirza Azam said Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“So there is a need for a competent leader to strengthen the hand of the premier. Qualified leaders should be given responsibilities to achieve the goal,” he said.

Chaired by AL central working committee member Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, the meeting was attended, among others, by AL relief and social welfare secretary and member-secretary of the sub-committee Sujit Roy Nandi, organising secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, labour and manpower affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Dhaka south city AL president Abu Ahmed Mannafi and general secretary of the city unit Humayun Kabir.
