Govt to buy 1.20 lakh tonnes fertilizer, 40,000 tonnes furnace oil

The government will buy a total of 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser and 40,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil from abroad under five different procurement proposals.

The approval to the project came at a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

CCGP meeting approved a total of seven proposals, including the mentioned proposals, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin informed at a press briefing later.

Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will buy 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar at a cost of around Tk 1.16 billion and  30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea from KAFCO, Bangladesh for nearly Tk 1.20 billion. .

  Besides, another 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer will come from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, SABIC, Saudi Arabia for around Tk 1.16 billion.

30,000 metric tons of bulk prilled urea fertilizer also from SABIC, Saudi Arabia at a cost of around Tk 1.14 bilion both under state agreement.

Under another approved proposal, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will buy 40,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil from PT. Bumi Siak Pusaku Zapin, Indonesia at a cost of around Tk 1.74 billion.

 CCGP approved a cost escalation variation proposal of Tk 535.3 million from the ministry of shipping under the project for removing wastes from Sadarghat to Bakalia Char of River Karnaphuli to increase navigability through dredging.

  Besides, the meeting gave nod to a proposal from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism for appointing the joint venture of WOOJOO and SUNJIN, Korea as the consultant with around Tk 593.7 million for expanding the runway of Cox's Bazar Airport.
