Mahmudpur Mass Killing Day today

Today is the Mahmudpur Mass Killing Day. On this day in 1971, Pakistani occupation force along with the Razakars and Al-Badrs attacked the village of Mahmudpur in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail and killed a number of unarmed civilians.

Some 23 people were martyred and many were maimed in the attack.

According to the surviving freedom fighters, the house of Hatem Ali Talukder, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s companion and Member of National Assembly (MNA), was set on fire.

Later, the barbaric force set fire on numerous other houses and looted valuable goods.

They detained hundreds of innocent people and opened brushfire at the Eidgah ground in Pankata village where 23 people were killed.

The incident left numerous people injured.
