‘No alternative to Hasina’

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said that there is no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in achieving the dream goal.

“Presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is necessary to make the dream come true and turn the country a prosperous nation. There is no alternative to the premier to achieve the dream goal as she is only her alternative,” he said.

The information and broadcasting minister was addressing a discussion on the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) premises in the capital, marking 75th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Pragatishil Sangbadik Mancha arranged the programme titled “Greetings to the Prime Minister on her 75th birthday, Sheikh Hasina a leader of development.”

Listing countrywide different development activities taken by Sheikh Hasina-led government, Hasan, also the joint general secretary of Awami League, said Bangladesh had outperformed Pakistan in all indexes, including social, economic and other sectors.

“Even, we have passed India in some social and economic indexes. We have also passed India in per capita income despite coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

Talking over housing projects of the premier for homeless people, Hasan said some 300,000 people would get houses by this December.

“Some 150,000 houses had already been handed over to the homeless people marking the Mujib Year,” he said.

Mentioning intellectual’s forecast that many people would die due to scarcity of food during Covid-19 pandemic, Hasan said that no one died due to scarcity of food due to prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

 Chaired by JPC president Farida Yasmin, the discussion was addressed, among others, by editor of Daily Sun and Chairman of Press Institute of Bangladesh Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, retired justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, editor of the Daily Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and managing editor of the Daily Sangbad Kashem Humayun.

Senior journalists Shafiqul Karim, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Subhash Chandra Badal and Munni Saha also addressed on the occasion. Shamsuddin Manik said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been able to create a new trend in development.

“That’s why United Nations has conferred her Sustainable Development Goal Progress Award. It is unprecedented that UN has termed the Premier as ‘jewel in the crown of the day’,” he said.

In his address, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the nucleus of the development of Bangladesh.

“Today’s development would not been possible without the incumbent Prime Minister,” he said.

Farida Yasmin said it was not possible to get an independent Bangladesh unless Bangabandhu was born and it would not be possible to get a developed and prosperous Bangladesh if Sheikh Hasina was not born.
