The nation on Tuesday celebrated the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is now staying in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly, amid festivity.
Sheikh Hasina, the most successful statesman in the post-1975 era, was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj district on September 28, 1947.
Because of the dynamic and prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the eldest among the five children of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Bangladesh has been elevated to a developed country status and has been placed in a dignified position in the world map. Like previous years, Awami League and its affiliated organisations celebrated the day through various programmes, highlighting her life and achievements.
Different programmes, including discussions, cultural function, webinar, doa and milad-mahfil, special prayers, blood donation camp, food distribution, tree plantation, and photo exhibitions were organised in the capital and elsewhere across the country, marking her birthday.
Besides these, a special mass vaccination campaign was conducted on the day to inoculate 8 million people on the occasion of her birthday.
As part of the AL central programmes, a discussion was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital at 10:30am.
Doa and milad-mahfil were arranged at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and all other mosques throughout the country after Zahr prayers.
Besides, AL’s associate bodies have organized separate programs marking the day. In the morning, the ruling AL and its associate bodies brought out jubilant processions in the capital and across the country, including district, city, upazila, municipality and union levels as well.
Chhatra League brought out a jubilant procession from the Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus at noon. After parading different streets on the campus, the procession ended after a rally.
Bangladesh Krishak League held a discussion and doa mahfil in the afternoon marking the birthday. Besides, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechchasebak League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League and Tati League have celebrated the day with similar programme.
To mark the day, Jubo League handed over ten houses to homeless people, including Iman Ali, Nur Mohammad Kotu Mia, Fatema Tuz Johora, Anwara Begum and Prem Kumar Das of Gazipur, Ratan Bala of Narshingdi, Beauty Khatun of Mymenshingh and Mrs Khushban of Sherpur.
Office of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee held a discussion and doa mahfil.
The Directorate General of Family Planning cut a cake and held a doa mahfil, marking the day. Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) organised a discussion and milad mahfil, marking the birthday of the Premier.
