Five killed in road crashes

Five people were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Magura and Habiganj districts on Monday.

Witnesses said a road accident took place at Andiura in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj around 1:30pm, leaving three dead and five others injured.

Two of the deceased were identified as Lupa Akter, 6, daughter of Kuddus Miah of Rasulpur village and her brother Mosharraf, 3, of the same upazila.

Md Maenul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, said a bus hit an auto-rickshaw, leaving two people dead.

The injured were taken to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex where one of them was declared dead.

In another accident, a woman and her baby girl were killed in a collision between a truck and a three-wheeler on Magura-Shalikha road at Junary in Shalikha upazila of Magura in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Sharifa Khatun, 30, wife of Ibadul Islam of Kulum village of the upazila and her 10-month-old daughter Khadiza.

Two other passengers were also injured in the accident.

Police said when Sharifa along with her daughter was going to Shalikha upazila headquarters in a rickshaw van, the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit their vehicle around 10am.

Police seized the killer truck and detained the helper of its driver. The driver managed to escape.

Tarak Nath Biswas, officer-in-charge of Shalikha police station, said a case was filed in this regard.
