This year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations will begin on November 14 and December 2 respectively. The exam schedules were published on Monday on the website of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka.

The schedules say SSC and equivalent exams will end on November 23 and HSC exams on December 30.

Earlier, Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board uploaded an exam routine on its website, saying that Dakhil exams will begin on November 14.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni earlier said this year’s SSC and equivalents exams will be held with short syllabuses on three elective subjects on group basis, and 24 assignments will be given to SSC students.

HSC students will have to sit for six subjects with short syllabus. Some 30 assignments will be given before the exams.

No assignment will be given on Bengali, English and other compulsory subjects and the 4th subjects, she said.

Usually, SSC and equivalent exams are held in February and HSC and equivalents exams in April, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the authorities to postpone both the public exams.

Last year, SSC tests were completed before the pandemic, but the HSC exams were postponed. As schools were closed, students were promoted automatically without HSC exams.

The HSC results were published by averaging the grades in JSC and SSC.

The educational institutions across the country reopened on September 12 after being closed since March 17, last year due to the corona pandemic.

Sources at the education ministry said a total of 22 lakh students under 11 education boards will sit for SSC exams and 14 lakh for HSC exams across the country this year.
