An ex-student of Dhaka University (DU) was found hanging from the ceiling fan at a house in Chankharpool of the capital on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Masud Al Mahadi Opu, a former student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department. Opu, who received his master’s in 2017, hails from Nesarabad (Swarupkathi) in Pirojpur.

Abdul Kaium, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chawkbazar Police Station, told the Daily Sun that they sent the body to Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy.

He said that Opu passed BCS preliminary exam and was gearing up for the written test.

Besides, he was making preparation for interviews for government jobs, he said.

Jahirur Islam, a roommate of the victim, said that there were three living in the room. “Another roommate and I work for Daraz. I left the residence around 9:00 am while another did so one hour later.

“When I left the residence, I saw Opu sleeping. When I returned, I found that the door was locked from the inside. I knocked at the door and phoned Opu several times, but he didn’t respond. Later, I looked through a window and found him hanging from the ceiling fan”.

“I phoned police dialing 999 and later they recovered the body,” he said.

He said that Opu was involved in journalism for some months, but later gave it up in order to be prepared for government jobs.
