PMK distributes seedlings of gerbera flower

Palli Mongal Karmosuchi (PMK) distributed seedlings of gerbera flowers among the farmers at Momota Polli Resort in Zirabo in Savar on Monday.

PMK has produced seedlings of gerbera flowers at the Tissue Culture Lab under the PACE project with the support of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).

PKSF Managing Director Dr Nomita Halder was present as the chief guest while PKSF Senior General Manager Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Savar Upazila Agriculture Officer Naziat Ahmed attended the programme as the special guests.

PMK Chief Executive Kamrun Nahar presided over the function while PMK Chief IT Dewan Faisal and PMK Hospital Chief Advisor Dr Sudipta Kabir were present as the guests of honour.

PMK Training Coordinator Riyad Mahmud along with others senior officials of PMK and PKSF were also present at the function.

The guests visited the Floral Biotech Tissue Culture Lab and later they distributed seedlings of gerbera flowers among the farmers.

“PMK has implemented a 15-month project to set up a tissue culture laboratory in Ashulia to expand the floriculture in the country with the financial support of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).”

“Around 12 thousand gerbera flowers seedlings of 6 types of colors have been produced in this lab by collecting the mother plants of gerbera flowers amid making protocol,” they added.

A total of 4400 seedlings of gerbera flowers have been sold experimentally which have been produced in the tissue lab amounting to Tk 1,29,000 at a rate of Tk 30 per seedling. Various quality flower seedlings will be provided to the farmers at affordable prices in the future from this tissue lab.
