State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said the government was providing all out support to help tourism industry entrepreneurs recover from pandemic shocks.

He said this at a discussion organized by Bangladesh Tourism Board at Parjatan Bhaban in the capital on Monday. “The tourism industry across the world is going through a difficult situation. Institutions associated with this industry had to shut down for a long time due to the pandemic. Bangladesh tourism entrepreneurs have also suffered a huge financial loss,” the state minister said.

He said, “The government has taken various measures to recover from the damage. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has so far announced an incentive of Tk 1,500 crore to help traders related to various sub-sectors of the country’s tourism industry.”

Mentioning the country’s immense potential in tourism sector Mahbub Ali said. “Our biggest asset is diverse and rich tourism products.”

“Facilities are being created for domestic and foreign tourists. Construction of three tourist parks has started in Cox’s Bazar alone. After the completion of the work, it will create an additional $20 million worth of economic activities every year and employment of 40,000 people,” he said.

The state minister said they were working on rural tourism and community-based tourism development to further engage marginalised people in the tourism industry.
