Two more die of dengue, 242 hospitalised

The number of dengue cases has already crossed 7,000 mark in September as the number of infection cases and casualty have been increasing in the country.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 242 more dengue patients were hospitalised and two deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

It said 7,001 dengue patients were hospitalised in September, 7,698 dengue patients in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.

Some 12 dengue patients died across the country in the last month July, 34 dengue patients died in the last month August and 15 in September, the health directorate data added.

The DGHS said 185 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 57 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8am on Sunday.

A total of 814 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 229 outside the city, it said.

The number of death from the dengue disease also has been increasing day by day as a total of 61 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added. The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 72 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 17,357 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country including in Dhaka city since January until September 26 this year.

So far, 16,253 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, the DGHS report said.
