Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Saturday hinted at imposing tax on vehicles plying across Gulshan and Baridhara.

“As the number of cars plying across Gulshan and Baridhara has increased, we have a plan to impose tax on vehicles entering the two posh areas to reduce traffic jams,” said Atiqul at a rally in the capital’s Khilgaon.

Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) organised the rally, marking World Car Free Day to give up personal cars for a day.

“The routes from Gulshan-1 to Gulshan-2, Kakoli (Banani) to Gulshan or Gulshan to Baridhara witness traffic jams often as the number of cars has increased. Many families hold separate car for each member,” said the mayor.
