Yet another feather in PM’s cap

Yet another feather in PM’s cap

It has been an immense pleasure for the countrymen to learn that the UN Secretary General António Guterres has highly appreciated the development miracle of Bangladesh under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The chief of the global organisation expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister during a bilateral meeting held at the UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday. It is indeed a matter of honour and pride for the entire nation. When Bangladesh emerged as an independent county in 1971, it was the second poorest country in the world. Over the next 50 years, the country steadily climbed the development ladder making its transformation one of the great development stories.

Bangladesh has been successfully transformed into not just a leader amongst the countries in South Asia, but a truly global player. Now, the country illustrates a most intriguing and delightful puzzle in international development. It is being tagged as a 'Role Model for Development' before the developing countries around the world. We are proud of our country's accomplishments. But, the question is, how did the country move to a 'development surprise'? What is the story behind the country's remarkable developmental transformation? The answer is clear and simple. It is because of wise leadership of the PM, the country has been able to attain tremendous success in its developmental journey.

Earlier, Bangladesh was termed as a basket case due to years of military rule that enjoyed the blessings of radical forces led by Jamaat-e-Islami. The country moved backward significantly during the regimes of the military rulers. However, it is because of Allah's blessings, Sheikh Hasina ascended to power in 1996 and guided the country for a brief period till 2001. After a lull, people again brought her to power in 2009. Following her ascension to premiership, she embarked on an irresistible journey of development. Presently, a good number of fast-track development projects are underway. Following successful implementation of the projects, employment and investment will be increased in the country. The PM already won a good number of laurels from the world leaders. The latest one by António Guterres is another feather in her cap.
