Woman gets life for killing husband

FENI: A court here on Thursday sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment for killing her husband in a planned way in 2014.

Convict Shahnaz Nadia was charged for killing her husband Kaiser Mahmud on April 11, 2014. She also admitted to her crime in a statement taken under section 164.

Feni District and Sessions Judge Begum Jebunnesa pronounced the verdict in presence of convict Shahnaz Nadia on Thursday after found her guilty. The court also fined Shahnaz Tk 50,000, in default, she has to serve one more month in jail.

According to court sources, on the night of April 11 2014, Kaiser Mahmud was killed on the bank of a pond near Bhoona Bari on the road adjacent to the old registry office of the city while he was returning home along with his wife.

Later, Kaiser Mahmud’s father Abul Khair filed a case with Feni Model Police Station in this regard.

Police arrested Shahnaz Nadia as the prime suspect of Kaiser Mahmud’s murder and she gave a confessional statement under section 164 on April 13, 2014 in the court of the then Senior Judicial Magistrate Khairul Amin.

Investigating officer of the case Alamgir Hasan submitted chargesheet to the court on October 30, 2015. The trial began on September 27 in 2016 after charges were framed.

The final hearing of the case concluded on September 20, 2021. During the trial court recorded testimony of 15 people.
