Stocks ended almost flat on Thursday, after the previous day’s modest correction, as investors mostly followed cautious stance ahead of corporate declarations.
The market index moved between positive and negative before closing marginally higher.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also saw a fractional gain of 0.36 points or 0.01 per cent to close at 2,673. However, the DSE Shariah Index fell by 1.46 points or 0.09 per cent to finish at 1,581.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, dropped below Tk 20 billion-mark once again and amounted to Tk 18.52 billion, which was 14 per cent lower than the previous day’s tally of Tk 21.50 billion.
Losers, however, took a modest lead over the gainers, as out of 375 issues traded, 185 declined, 145 advanced and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
A total number of 244,841 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 435.69 million shares and mutual fund units.
Beximco - the flagship company of Beximco Group- continued to dominate the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 969 million changing hands, followed by Orion Pharma (Tk 774 million), Beximco Pharma (Tk 719 million), Delta Life Insurance (Tk 634 million), SS Steels (Tk 400 million) and Alif Manufacturing Company Ltd (Tk 392 million).
CVO Petrochemical Refinery Limited was the worst loser, losing 4.21 per cent, closely followed by Fu-Wang Ceramic Industries Ltd, Dominage Steel Building Systems Limited, Daffodil Computers Ltd, Safko Spinnings Mills Ltd, First Security Islami Bank Limited, Appollo Ispat Complex Limited, Sonargaon Textiles Ltd, Aman Cotton Fibrous Limited and Simtex Industries Limited.
However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), edged lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –losing 11 points to settle at 21,146 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 6.61 points to close at 12,687.
Of the issues traded, 174 declined, 115 advanced and 26 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city’s bourse traded 18.03 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk 508 million.
