‘Caretaker govt not a solution’

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has said the election-time caretaker government system is not any permanent solution for holding national election, in a free, fair and neutral manner.

“The caretaker government system is not a complete solution to hold fair, neutral and acceptable election. It can’t be a long term solution to fair election,” he said.

The Jatiya Party chairman came up with the statement while speaking at an introducing meeting of Jatiya Prakton Soinik Party, at the party chairman’s Banani office in the capital on Thursday.

GM Quader said, “Law to form election commission will have to be made according to the constitution for permanent solution of reconstitution of the commission. As per the constitution, all departments of the country will remain under the election commission.”

In his speech, he further said if the election commission is formed with neutral persons as per the law then people’s rights to vote will be ensured.

Though the general election is held under election-time caretaker government but the local government election will be held under the party in power, GM Quader said.

The Jatiya party chief said, “So, if the election commission is strengthen by making law then problems related to all elections of the country will be solved.”

Claiming that depoliticisation is going on in the country’s politics, Quader said if such situation continues then the political parties will turn into name only political force.

Mentioning that the people’s representatives will be elected and government will be changed only through election, he said the political parties have lost supporters as they can’t sustain in election field under the pressure of the administration.
